One to One Training

Some common training problems are:

Jumping up

Pulling on the lead

Not coming when called

Control exercises - sit/stay/down/leave etc.

For some owners, individual training sessions may be preferable. Reasons may include work commitments, not feeling comfortable in a class situation, having a dog with very specific training needs etc. Sometimes it is simply the flexibility of one to one training that clients prefer. Some new dog owners, wether of puppies or older rehomed or 'rescue' dogs, request individual sessions to cover a range of topics related to owning their dog as well as specific training exercises. While every effort is made to cover advice or problems in a class situation, time may be limited. Private lessons can be tailored to suit individual owners and dogs more specifically.

Behavioural Advice (Dogs and other pets)

Some common canine behavioural problems are:

Persistent barking

Separation anxiety

Incomplete housetraining

Nervous of people/other dogs

For pets with behaviour problems that require more than straight forward training advice, behavioural consultations can be arranged for a more in depth assessment of the problem/problems.

Behavioural consultations require veterinary referral as some animal behaviour problems can be caused by an underlying physical condition. It is therefore important to check this out with your vet in the first instance. Another reason for including your vet in this process is that should an animal require medication as well as behavioural therapy, only a veterinary surgeon can prescribe these drugs for your pet.

Once your vet has checked that your pet has no underlying physical cause for its behavioural problem and sends me written confirmation of this, I can arrange to meet with you to assess and advise on your pets behaviour.

Following a behavioural consultation, a written report is completed and sent to you with recommendations for a behaviour modification programme. A copy of this is also sent to your vet to keep them informed of the programme that has been advised.

If you are experiencing behavioural problems with one of your pets but are unsure whether you need help with training , behavioural assesment, or a combination of the two, please feel free to contact me to discuss your problem.
