**DAY-TIME CLASS**
East Oakley Village Hall, Oakley on Thursdays from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m.
All classes run over a six week course for dogs aged under 18 weeks at the start of the course. Pre booking is essential as places are limited to a maximum of 8 puppies at Kempshott and 6 puppies at Oakley.
This limit enables each puppy and owner to receive individual help with every exercise whilst ensuring an effective start to puppy socialisation.
The Puppy Foundation Course is the first level of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme and on successful completion of the course a certificate and rosette is awarded. There is NO TEST at the end of the course achievements are simply recorded by your trainer on an assessment record sheet. The following exercises are examples of some things that are covered:

· Cleanliness and identification
· Attentive response to name
· Play

The environment is intended to be relaxed and non-competitive. Puppy training sessions are intended to be fun for you and your dog while it is learning socialisation skills and basic commands. There is usually a lot of laughter as well as learning!!

* handouts dealing with common problems
* an information pack with course training booklet
*Telephone support during and after the course

The beginner classes need to be pre-booked, are limited to 8 dogs (6 in Oakley classes) and run for 6 weeks. They cover the exercises needed for owners who want a well behaved pet. They also provide a foundation for those wishing to further their training for obedience, agility or the show ring. These classes are suitable for dogs that have had no previous training but are too old for the puppy class. They are also suitable for rescue dogs and for dogs who have already been to classes but who need reminding of the basic skills.
All dogs must be up to date with the vaccinations recommended for their age group by their vet. Puppies who have completed the puppy class are welcome along with older dogs attending classes for the first time. However, we regret we are unable to take dogs with a history of aggression.
Older children are welcome to take part in the training whilst under their parents supervision.
The six week beginner course will include the following exercises:
Walking on a loose lead
Recall
Sit to greet people (no jumping up)
Stays
Safe play & retrieving
Emergency stop
Stand for examination
Leave on command
There is also normally time for question and answer sessions to deal with specific problems you may be having.
The course is designed around preparing dog and owners for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Bronze Award.
The cost for this course is £60

'IMPROVERS' Course
We also run a class for owners who's dogs have done their basic training but would like to continue learning new things and to maintain their dogs training programme.
These sessions follow on nicely from the foundation that has been established in previous classes. At the end of a Puppy or Beginners course we will (where appropriate) invite you put your name on our waiting list for one of these courses if you are interested.
We hold 6 week 'Improvers' courses periodically (approximately 4-5 times a year) at Kempshott and at Oakley and they are proving to be very popular. They also provide a good opportunity to practice skills for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards, although there is no obligation at all to take the tests. We hold sessions for assessment for the Good Citizen Awards throughout the year and achieving the Certificates is always a good feeling! No-one ever 'fails' although occasionally an owner and/or their dog may be deemed 'not ready' for a pass, in which case it can simply be retaken after a bit more practice.
You are welcome to discuss the 'Improvers' Course with us in more detail when you attend for the other classes if you would like to do so. Alex will contact those who have put their names on our waiting list when an 'Improvers' course is to be held, notifying them of the relevant dates and inviting them to attend.
Priority for these courses is generally given to dogs that have attended one of our previous courses. However, anyone who hasn't been to one of our classes before but feels that this may be an appropriate level of training for their dog is welcome to contact Alex directly to discuss attending the 'Improvers' (or the 'High Flyers') course.
The cost of the 6 week 'Improvers' course is £60

The high flyers are for those dogs and handlers who are interested in competition or who simply wish to stretch their training skills even further. A range of activities such as indoor hurdling, searching for hidden articles and competition nights ensure owners and their dogs get a healthy dose of fast and furious fun to balance the calmer exercises of stays, stand for examination and distance control.
This class runs on a 'drop in' basis and is open to dogs and owners who have reached a good standard of control in one of our other classes.
